Parents Empowering Rainbow Kids (PERK)
By Sunbury Cobaw Community Health
Parents Empowering Rainbow Kids (PERK) is a peer support network for parents and carers of LGBTQIA+ young people up to the age of 25. Delivered by WayOut in partnership with Sunbury and Cobaw Community Health, PERK provides a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental space where parents can connect with others, share experiences and access trusted information to better support their children.
The program brings together families from the Macedon Ranges and neighbouring shires through regular gatherings, a quarterly parent network, newsletters and community events. Parents can build supportive relationships with others on similar journeys, explore topics relevant to raising LGBTQIA+ young people, and access practical information, local services and resources in an affirming environment.
Whether your child has recently come out, is questioning their identity or you’ve been supporting them for years, PERK helps parents feel less isolated and more confident. By fostering connection, shared learning and community, the program empowers families to create safe, affirming homes where LGBTQIA+ young people can thrive.
