Q+Law – Free Legal Support for LGBTIQA+SB Communities
By Fitzroy Legal Service in partnership with Queerspace
Q+Law is a free specialist legal service providing safe, inclusive and affirming legal advice to LGBTIQA+SB (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual, sistergirl and brotherboy) people across Victoria. Delivered by Justice Q in partnership with community legal services, Q+Law recognises the unique legal issues that can affect LGBTQIA+ communities and provides expert support in a respectful, trauma-informed environment.
The service offers legal advice, information and referrals across a broad range of issues, including discrimination, harassment and violence based on sexual orientation, gender identity or sex characteristics; legal matters affecting trans and gender diverse people, such as changing legal documents or accessing services; donor conception agreements and disputes; family violence; employment law; tenancy; immigration; and complaints about police, corrections, healthcare providers and unlawful change or suppression (conversion) practices.
Q+Law also assists with applications to expunge historical convictions for consensual homosexual activity and helps people understand and exercise their legal rights. Whether you’re facing a legal problem, looking for advice or unsure where to start, Q+Law provides accessible, culturally safe support to help you navigate the legal system with confidence.
