Developed by the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission in partnership with Raising Children Network, this guide provides practical, evidence-based advice to help parents and caregivers support teens and young adults who are exploring or questioning their sexuality or gender identity.
The guide offers practical tips for starting conversations, listening without judgement, responding with care, using inclusive language and creating a home where young people feel safe, loved and accepted. It also explains key terms related to sexuality and gender, outlines Victoria’s laws on change and suppression (conversion) practices, and connects families with trusted support services and further resources.
Whether your child is questioning their identity, or you’re simply looking to better understand and support them, this resource provides compassionate guidance to help families navigate these conversations with confidence, empathy and respect.
