The Zone – LGBTQIA+ inclusive alcohol and drug program

The Zone is a free, inclusive alcohol and other drugs (AOD) support program for young people aged 12–25 and their families. Delivered in partnership by YSAS, Odyssey House Victoria and Drummond Street Services, the program provides specialist support for LGBTQIA+, African and Pasifika young people through an intersectional, culturally safe model of care that recognises the unique experiences and strengths of diverse communities.
Support is tailored to each young person’s goals and circumstances, with services including one-on-one counselling, ongoing case management, care planning, outreach, peer support, alcohol and drug education, family support, assistance with managing withdrawal, and referrals to mental health, housing, legal, employment and other community services. The program takes a whole-person approach, recognising that alcohol and other drug use is often connected to broader experiences affecting health and wellbeing.
The Zone creates a welcoming, non-judgemental environment where young people can explore their relationship with alcohol and other drugs, reduce harm and access practical support at their own pace. Families and carers are also supported with information, guidance and resources to help them navigate challenges together and strengthen wellbeing across the whole family.
